It was wonderful to see so many of you on March 10 for our training called “Standing Firm: Leading from the Trenches.” We looked at what Scripture teaches us about “Spiritual Warfare” and how that influences the way we lead and encourage our groups. If you missed it, here’s a link to the training video as well as the notes. Thanks so much for your leadership! It’s a blessing to serve with you!!

As Group Leaders we spend so much time pouring into other’s spiritual lives, but often, we ourselves feel like we’re running on an empty tank. Here are three opportunities to have your spiritual life fed with inspiration and motivation. Sign up for one, two, or ideally, all three events led by Pastor Tony.

Saturday, January 14, 2017
9am-12pm at Lighthouse Christian Center

As leaders, we are called to equip the body of believers.  While this is related to passing on information, facilitating conversations and hosting gatherings, it is not the same.  In this training we will focus on the difference—what it means to equip and empower individuals within our groups to develop and use their gifts in the body (for both their growth and the group’s benefit).  Childcare provided for 0-5. SAVE THE DATE: MORE & BETTER WORKSHOP II ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12

morebetterpagebanner

Last year, Lighthouse presented the first in a series of workshops focused on its purpose to be a Christ-centered community, reaching out every day to make more and better disciples. This time, Pastors Art and Tony will lead a workshop focused on disciplining and hot topics.

Have you thought about what you would do as a home group leader in a situation if a difficult subject came up, and you really don’t know how to handle it? As a learning group instructor, how would you handle the topic of evolution? As a fun group facilitator, would you be prepared to talk about Christianity and the LGBTQ community?

Maybe you would have no idea what to say – no knowledge base at all about the topic. Or maybe you have some knowledge about the topic, but don’t know how to communicate about it. Whether a subject is hot, cold or lukewarm there is an approach to take that will help you help your disciplee move ahead spiritually. And it won’t be based primarily on your extensive knowledge base, but on your ability to have a good spiritual discussion as a spiritual friend. More & Better II will help you learn how to handle conversations around hot topics with those you are discipling.

The workshop takes place on Saturday, November 12 from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Childcare for infants through kindergarten is available with pre-registration. Sign up today by clicking the following link: http://lighthousehome.org/component/content/article/38-next-steps/130-discipleship

Happy New Year

MoreBetter-FPSS

The More & Better Discipleship Workshop is Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This workshop provides a practical plan for every leader who wants to help the people they serve to take the next step of spiritual growth. Discipleship will be demystified, offering a clear design for helping someone grow as a disciple. If you serve at Lighthouse – whether you’re an experienced leader or someone who has never discipled another believer – More and Better is for you. This two-and-a-half hour workshop is a practical resource, spurring one another on, to a life of love and service to God.

BONUS – the first 75 people who register and attend the workshop will receive a free copy of Multiply by Francis Chan and Mark Beuving. This book is one of the resources we will recommend at the workshop and is specially designed to use in discipleship relationships. Childcare is available for children through Kindergarten age with pre-registration. Register online here.

Thank you to those who attended Prayer Training!

Prayer-roots

Over the weekend about 30 of us got together for a Prayer training workshop. Our time together included a scripture study of Psalm 84, which led to a wonderful discussion about different interpretations of the versus, the beautiful images that the words brought to mind, and how we typically emote feelings of joy, courage and weakness in our own lives.

Next, we discussed prayer ministry, focusing on when it may be appropriate to break into small groups, the advantages (and disadvantages) of dividing men and women for prayer, and when to focus on intercession for one person in the group. We spent some time in small group prayer and also applied what we learned about intercession prayer. Finally, we talked about Spirituality of the Psalms, and took a deeper look at ways the prayers can be categorized, how that makes us feel, and what trials the Psalmists may have faced while writing scripture.
