Faith In Action: Sponsor a local youth for YoungLife Summer Camp

Lighthouse Member Jay Milsten recently presented a unique opportunity to put our faith in action and practice Lighthouse’s value of Community Transformation. We thought it was worth passing on. Check it out.

background

Last year, his men’s bible study group committed to sending one local high school student to YoungLife’s Malibu Club summer camp. Each week they would add $5 to a jar until it reached $500. The cost for a student to attend camp is around $750, so the student must pitch in some money if he/she really wants to go. After camp, the YoungLife Leader that accompanied the local group of campers visited the men’s bible study group to let them know the effect that camp had on the kid they helped support. They never learned the name of the student they supported, but it didn’t matter, they knew they had made a difference in the life of one local youth and that was enough.

Jay’s hope this year is to get 30 groups to commit to sponsoring 30 local kids to attend the YoungLife camp. If you don’t know about Club Malibu, check out this video to catch a glimpse of what kids experience during what many say is the “best week of their life.” https://vimeo.com/36953209

There is no pressure to join Jay in his effort. But if it sounds like something you might be interested in, give Jay Milsten a call. He is open to visiting groups to explain the process and get you started. Call him at (253) 230-5433 or email jaym@allstate.com.

About YoungLife and Malibu Club

YoungLife believes in the power of presence. Kids’ lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God’s love with them. Because their leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning, and purpose.

This summer camp is a week that changes everything! A memory to last a lifetime created in just seven days of high adventure, laughing, meeting new people, hanging with friends, great food, incredible music and Young Life club with 350 other campers who get the opportunity to consider a relationship with God in the beautiful setting of Malibu Club.
